Question from Terry A. Nyman 10/16/2001
You might have some information on the time frame in which Peping was used.  I know it used for a brief time in 1929 after the Central Govt. moved to Nanking; Peking became Peping briefly before Peiping was adopted.  I'm trying to find the exact (if possible) first and last dates of the Peping usage by the postal system.  If you have any of these in your collection, I would appreciate knowing the earliest and latest dates

Answer from Steve Gates 10/20/2001
I have two "Peping" covers, one from May 19, 1937 and one from September 27, 1945.  I believe all came about because in revising some cramped daters reading "PEKING" there was not enough room to put "IP" in place of "K"
